I am of course delighted to receive a letter from President Barak Obama on the 100th Anniversary of The College of Westchester.  To quote from the August 5 letter that I received on behalf of CW today;  (begin quote)

I am stunned and pleased that we have received this, as a stellar proprietary college.  There is an  an effort by The US Department of Education to get rid of bad actors in our sector. I am glad that we have been recognized for the good work which we have, in fact, been doing, for 100 years, since 1915.  Thank you, Mr. President, for recognizing us today.

Happy 2015!

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!  It is CW's 100th anniversary as a college this year, and it is a great year to celebrate!


The 2015 economic outlook is bright, and that means that it is also bright for CW grads.  If you are a new CW student, or a continuing student, keep your eye on the prize.  While a CW education has almost always proven to be recession proof, in pursuing and securing employment in the field in which you have chosen and immersed yourself throughout your studies, the local, regional, national and global economy is catching up.

I attended a function last Thursday, January 8, featuring Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's plans for Westchester in 2015, followed by an economic overview from Lisa Shalett, head of investment and portfolio solutions, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and roundtable discussion on economic trends for the business community in the year ahead that featured  William Cuddy, CBRE, Guy Leibler, Simone Development Companies, Christopher Meyers, Houlihan Lawrence, Inc., Ayall Schanzer, Friedland Realty Advisors and Glenn Walsh, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

Overall, the tone was positive.  Jobs are up, real estate is appreciating in both private and commercial sectors, and the investment (stock and bond) market is healing and growing locally and globally.  This is all good news.  The best news, to me, is that consumers will begin to drive the market and lead economic growth.  

Translation, more jobs, better pay, more disposable income for people.  Economic and financial freedom means more choices, a chance to breathe.  After a tough time for so many, I am hopeful that this will mean great things for our students, grads, families and CW family too!

So Happy New Year, everyone!  Prepare to continue to work hard, have a personal and profession vision including goals.  Don't be afraid to be patient, roll up your shirt-sleeves and believe in yourself and the value of your college education.  Put it to work now.

100 Years of Excellence

It is hard for me to believe that The College of Westchester will reach it's 100 year anniversary in 2015.  That means thousands and thousands of CW graduates have graced the halls of virtually every company and organization in Westchester County, Rockland, Manhattan, Putnam, Bronx and Orange Counties and surrounding areas.  Thousands of success stories, tens of thousands of families whose lives were made better by our graduates' choice to attend college, persist, work hard, graduate and find employment that changed their lives for the better in so many ways.  Check out this interesting advertisement from 1915 which was placed in the New Rochelle Pioneer on July 24, 1915, when CW first opened their doors:

Back in the day, we were called Westchester Commercial School, then Westchester Business School, then The Westchester Business Institute, and now The College of Westchester.  Though our programs of study have changed to adapt to what the local and regional business community needs, one thing remains the same - we prepare individuals for careers that really matter, that can help make them employable, better their professional earnings potential and enrich their lives....and we still have the greatest instructors and professors!!

Happy Fall and Welcome to the new College of Westchester website and President's blog!

Hello and happy Autumn!  Another school year has begun.  Of course, that is a misnomer at CW as we have classes starting quite often all year round.  Because of our commitment to academic, student service and technological opportunities to meet our students where and when they attend classes, we offer a variety of online, hybrid, and classroom based courses. Visit our website and check it out!

Being involved with development of CW's online division in these past few years, it continues to be important to me and our CW team for students have an excellent and successful educational experience in each and every course they take.  Students give us feedback which we utilize to make the experience more intuitive and meaningful. 

Our academic advisors and success coaches, our faculty and staff are all on board to help our students become polished professionals, to graduate and move on to many other professional successes and a solid career path.
